Huber, Michaels &
Company is a regional public accounting firm with its headquarters
in Cumberland, Maryland.
The origins of Huber,
Michaels & Company go back over 50 years to a sole proprietorship
started by David C. McLaughlin. The Firm has grown continually
over the years and has been through a number of mergers and acquisitions.
Edward G. Huber, Jr. became a partner in 1983. In 1989, Timothy
P. Michaels became a partner in the Firm, and on January 1, 1990,
the name was changed from McLaughlin, Huber & Company to Huber,
Michaels & Company. In 1997, Huber, Michaels & Company
acquired an accounting practice in Keyser, West Virginia. On January 1, 2010
Mindy Kirkwood became a partner in the firm, and on January 1, 2019, Keith
Brode was added as a partner to our organization.
Huber, Michaels &
Company is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants, the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants,
and the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Edward G. Huber, Jr. and Timothy P. Michaels are past presidents
of the Western Maryland Chapter of the Maryland Association of
Certified Public Accountants and past members of the board of
directors of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.
We place high priority
on continuing professional education for all our staff members
through internal and external seminars. Each of our professional
staff members obtains a minumum of 40 hours per year in continuing
professional education. The training seminars are conducted by
the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland
Association of Certified Public Accountants, the West Virginia
Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Pennsylvania
Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Our firm makes use
of two levels of review and supervision in order to ensure the
accuracy and quality of our work. The first level is on-site by
our supervisor and in-charge accountants, and the second level
is in our office by one of our partners.
Our firm successfully
completed an independent, on-site quality review in 2017 under
the supervision of the Maryland Association of Certified Public
Accountants. The review resulted in an unqualified opinion of
our quality control policies and procedures. The unqualified opinion
confirms our on-going commitment to internal quality control and

Presently, the Firm
employs 20 persons. Our professional staff consists of eight certified
public accountants with combined audit experience in excess of
100 years. Professional staff members keep abreast of quickly changing
tax and accounting issues by participating in continuing education
